National Zoological Park

One of the main objectives of the National Zoological Park at New Delhi is to create awareness amongst the visitors regarding nature conservation. To achieve this the Zoo organises a wide rang of activities, the details of which are given :-

• The six seater Battery Operated Trolley introduced in the Zoo last year the convenience of the sick and old people/children has operated successfully and their number has been increased in view of increased demand and to contain air pollution inside the park.

  The elephant ride for the visiting public was reintroduced after a gap of more than 10 years.

• Wildlife week was celebrated from 1st to 8th October, 1995 by organising film shows, painting, easy and debate competitions. The clay modelling competition arranged for visually handicapped students received overwhelming response and entry was made free for children during the week.

• Zoo Foundation Day was observed on 1st November, 1995 with cultural programme and distribution of prizes to the winners of wildlife week competitions. Inspector General of Forest , Ministry Environment and Forests, presided over function.

• Orientation training were provided to 120 teachers to create awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and the role of zoos.

• To remind people about their duties and resonsibilities towards wild flora and fauna, a Zoo Run was organised from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium to National Zoological Park, in which a large number of students participated.

• A pair of grey kangaroos (Australia),three African antelopes (Red Lechwe) and a pair of jaguars (South America) have been introduced in the Zoo during the year.
