Shri PV Jayakrishnan, IAS (AGMUT: 65) has taken over as Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, w.e.f. 01.11.2000 (AN). He is an MA (Economics) from Delhi University. After entering service, he served in the then NEFA (now Arunachal Pradesh) for five years from 1969 to 1974, where he worked as Deputy Commissioner in Tirap and Lohit Districts. He was later posted as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, from 1974 to 1979. During this period, he also went to the University of Cambridge, U.K. where he attended a course in Development and Administration during the academic year 1976-77. He was posted as Chief Secretary, Pondicherry from 1979-81 and as Secretary (Home), Delhi Administration, Delhi during 1981-83 after which he functioned as Commissioner (Food & Supplies) in Delhi Administration. He was General Manager, Super Bazaar from 1985-87 and later was posted as General Manager, DESU in 1987-88. He also served as Chief Secretary, Goa from March 1988 to March 1992 and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi from March 1992 to May 1993. He became Principal Secretary (Urban Development), Delhi Government from June 1993 to February 1995 after which he was Establishment Officer and Additional Secretary to the Government of India in Department of Personnel during the year 1995-96. He was also posted as Chief Secretary, Government of Delhi from January 1996 to June 1998. He then served as Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation from 11.06.1998 to 19.10.1999 and as Secretary, Ministry of Information Technology from 20.10.1999 to 01.11.2000 (FN).
