CENTRE FOR SOCIAL FORESTRY AND ECO-REHABILITATION (CSFER)


ORGANISATION

Centre is located in the problem area of the Gangetic plain and dry stony track of Vindhyan hills. Allahabad city and district situated on the confluence of river Ganga and Jamuna is representative of the river flood plains. Centre has the advantage of sharing the wisdom of various research institutes of National repute located at Allahabad. The Centre caters to the general research requirement for social forestry and environment relating to the plains of U.P., Vindhya Pradesh and western Bihar.

OBJECTIVES

The primary objective of Centre is to develop technology for ecological rehabilitation of refractory and degraded sites in the Gangetic plain and Vindhyan forests, to enhance the productivity of Vindhyas forest to sustain the local need of forest produce. To develop and demonstrate social forestry/farm forestry models ensuring enhanced productivity on sustainable basis.

RESEARCH

Centre was established for restoration/rehabilitation of ecologically and environmentally degraded areas require establishment of tree plantation in association with agri- crops,on under-used lands and wastelands etc. This endeavour also holds promise to fulfill the overall national objective of raising the land base biomass productivity. Centre is distributing,seedings of HYV for agroforestry purpose to the farmers and is contributing to develop varieties of trees specially for farmland and agroforestry, and also reclaiming user and wasteland through forestry.
