XXIV 43 POLICY AND LAW DIVISION (P&L)

Environmental Laws:

This Division is dealing with only Legislative work pertaining to all Environmental Laws administered by this Ministry particularly following :-

i) Water(Prevention and Control of Pollution)Act, 1974

ii) Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution Act (P&CP) Act 1981

iii) Environment (Protection) Act, 1986

iv) Water Cess (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act,1977

v) Public Liability Insurance Act,1991

vi) The National Environment Appellate Authority Act, 1997

a) Comprehensive National Environment Policy;

b) Review of existing legislation;

c) Furnishing comments on draft bills received from various Ministries;

d) Follow up action on the instructions received from Ministry of Law & Justice;

e) Operationalisation of National Environment Tribunal Act,1995;

f) Coordination of Court cases filed by State pollution Control Boards with regard to Water, Air and Environment (Protection) Acts;

g) Promoting co-operation between Member Countries of the SAARC and SACEP in the field of Environment Policy, Law and Legislation;

h) Training of Officers of State Pollution Control Boards and State Governments in Environment Policy, Law and Regulations;

i) Environmental consciousness among consumers (ECO Mark Scheme);

j) Trade and Environment;

k) Handling of World Bank aided projects:

· World Bank Environmental Management Capacity Building Technical Assistance Project (Law Component)

· World Bank Industrial Pollution Prevention Project

a) Pollution Prevention Project.

b) File work relating to climate change cell.
